A Day of Action in Delaware

Last month, we had the opportunity to participate in United Way Worldwide's Day of Action.  It's a day that happens once a year where United Way's from all over globally get together and set aside time to volunteer and impact the community hands on.   This year, United Way of Delaware was involved in three different projects:
YMCA’s Camp Qoowant Project:

Over 200+ kids and 30+ volunteers from the legal community and UWD enjoyed a morning of camp activities at YMCA’s Camp Quoowant. The children really seemed to have fun interacting with adults.  Volunteers joined campers as they participated in such activities like archery!  Special thanks to the law offices of Morris Nichols, Skadden Arps and Young Conway.  These firms provided the camp with volunteers for our Day of Action.

Walnut Street YMCA Beautification Project:
Volunteers from Teach for America and UWD completed a beautification project at the Walnut Street YMCA. Following the project an informal tour of the Eastside community and "words of wisdom" were given to the teachers as they prepared to enter the classroom this fall.

Walgreens Statewide Medical Check Project:
UWD partnered with Walgreens to provide medical checks and blood pressure screenings to various community and senior centers throughout the state. The med checks and screenings were offered from 9 a.m. - noon. The seniors and community members that took advantage of this service benefited greatly.  Some of the location that participated were the Claymont Community Center, Wilmington Senior Center, West End Neighborhood House, Harrington Senior Center, Mamie A. Warren Senior Center, Laurel Senior Center, Nanticoke Senior Center, Sigel Jewish Community Center and Modern Maturity Center.
